This item was written by Dorr in 1897, copied from his notes of travels in old diaries and from memory. The areas he visited, which he describes in detail, include Greenland (1869); the Indian Territory, Colorado, and the Pacific coast (1872-1873); Paris, England, Scotland, and Ireland (1882-1885). There are sketches and engravings in this volume. [He took the Greenland cruise with Isaac I. Hayes in 1869, which was described by Hayes in his "Land of Desolation" (New York: Harper, 1872).].

Dalton Dorr (1846-1901) was elected secretary of the Pennsylvania Museum and School of Industrial Art, now known as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, in 1880. In 1887, the title of curator was added to his duties that later culminated in the directorship of the museum in 1892. He administered these three tasks until 1899. Dorr enjoyed traveling.
